“You may encounter many defeats, but you must not be defeated. In fact, it may be necessary to encounter the defeats, so you can know who you are, what you can rise from, how you can still come out of it.” ― Maya Angelou
What’s the first thing you read in the Sunday paper? If it’s the Lexington Herald Leader, I first go first to the real estate section to see if anybody I know is moving into the neighborhood. Then, I’ll scan the Parade section before throwing myself into the news. In today’s issue ofParade, a story about veterans and educating young men to service caught my eye. One of the men said:
I’ve failed so many times I’ve stopped counting. But failing doesn’t define [me]. If you define yourself by a snapshot in time, you are shortchanging yourself.
What a great leadership tip. Failing is only a snapshot in time. It’s what you do with that failure or that mistake that counts. Entrepreneurs know this, even feel this in their bones. Because if you’re doing something new, something outside the box, you’re bound to fail a few times. Or, as a friend of mine always says,
It’s not where you start, it’s where you end up that matters!
Stay in touch…and share YOUR leadership tips with me. Janet
